Tributes

  1. Gerhard and family, I missed Liz's funeral, but it will not surprise you. I have lasting memories of Liz and I running for the bus in 1955 in Ealing, where we shared a bedsit, on our way to the school we both taught at in Alperton. Late as usual. I loved her very much. Life with Liz was always fun.

  5. Dear Gerhard and family
Sincerest condolences to you Gerhard and the family. I have the most wonderful memories of staying with you in your Basin Road hideaway, when your house became home to several invasions of Tibetan monks and a refuge at times to one invariably stressed Mandala Tour organiser. The monks and I were welcomed into your home with grace, patience and good humour despite furniture rearrangements, a takeover of the kitchen, a steady stream of laundry and some unusual monk business in the back yard.
Liz was a mother figure to monks who had not seen their own mothers for many years. They so much enjoyed being in the care of a mature female presence especially one was always smiling and always compassionate towards them. It was the same for me as well. They also very so grateful to you and Liz with the work you both did setting up and managing education sponsorships for families in their home town in Tibet.
My very warmest thoughts and prayers for the well being of all the family at this time of change.

  7. Dear Herzers,
My thoughts are with you all this afternoon, Liz was a cracker of a person to know and I will always have fond memories of her usually immediate and rather vitriolic responses to the assorted shenanigans that went on at Basin Road.
I wish I was with you all in Drysdale to see Liz off on her last trip.
Vale Liz you most intrepid traveller.
    Yours Peter O

  8. Liz you will be missed by all your Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. The reluctant Grandmother. Always willing to give, be supportive, encouraging and interested in their activities, schooling and future. I loved how you enquired, challenged and inspired them. Thank You for being you. You were always my Mother-in-law even though Rolf and I went our separate ways. We shared similar interests in flora and fauna, local remnant bushland, habitats and the Arts. You are an inspiration and i loved the way you viewed the world. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for you. Love to Gerhard and all the Herzer families.

  9. Dear Gerhard and family,

The members of the Gordon Language Group are saddened to hear of Liz's death and extend our sincere sympathy to you all. Liz was a dedicated teacher, dear friend and respected colleague. She was one of the original members of the group and remained actively involved over the years. Although Liz will certainly be missed, we will remember her conversations and the funny stories of her overseas adventures. We will never forget her special smile and vivacious personality.

  10. To Gerhard and Liz‘s family,
It was my privilege and pleasure to work with Liz at the Gordon in the 1990s. She was so much fun, passionate and creative in her teaching, kind and compassionate to all her students. I can still hear her lovely lilting voice and infectious laugh.
More recently I enjoyed catching up with her at our regular lunches, the last one on a beautiful sunny day in March, just before the first lockdown.
She loved her family dearly and delighted in her grandchildren. You will all miss her and we will too.
My sincere sympathy to you all, Louise King
