  2. Dear Lucy Rowena Sarah Shane Jane and Dean
Sending my love to you today for a man I will always fondly remember as having a cheeky sense of humour. I enjoyed seeing his latest projects especially the small train he helped restore. Jenele and Kiera still have the Japanese calligraphy things you gave them many years ago. Rip and go give my Aunty Mary!

  3. Stephen you were my brother. We were playmates in the beginning, and best friends for life.

When our mother passed away, you were 9 and I was 11. We were lost and in subsequent years we trod our different paths. These paths crossed every now and then, and it was not until I moved to Queensland, that we found a way to be back together.

Our life journeys have been very different, but we delighted in each other's company, and we were sad when we parted to return to our seperate lives. I admire that you never lost your sense of humour, mischief and fun even when life turned against you.

No matter what life threw at you, you were always my brother, and I love you deeply.

On May 24th, 2025, Australia celebrates National Brothers Day. On that day, I will celebrate you and your life, and give thanks that I was your brother.

  4. Vale Steve...My condolences to his friends and family - Ken, Lucy and Rowena. I only knew you for a short time but it's clear you had a wide circle of friends to farewell...

    Farewell My Friends
    It was beautiful
    As long as it lasted
    The journey of my life.
    I have no regrets
    Whatsoever said
    The pain I’ll leave behind.
    Those dear hearts
    Who love and care...
    And the strings pulling
    At the heart and soul...
    The strong arms
    That held me up
    When my own strength
    Let me down.
At the turning of my life
    I came across
    Good friends,
    Friends who stood by me
Even when time raced me by.
    Farewell, farewell My friends
    I smile and
    Bid you goodbye.
    No, shed no tears
    For I need them not
All I need is your smile.
    If you feel sad
    Do think of me
    For that’s what I’ll like
When you live in the hearts
    Of those you love
    Remember then
    You never die.

  7. I remember many lengthy chats with Steve over the years about the most curious and interesting topics - boy did he know a lot of stuff! Always there for his family and a constant presence at celebrations and family centred events. Sending love to all that were dear to Steve, especially my lifelong friend Lucy x

  8. I met Steve when I first started to work at Bay FM in Geelong. He had a milk bar back in the day and we got on well. That was 33 years ago and we had a friendship through all those years. I married an American some years back and went to live in America. One night, Steve and Mary rolled up at my back door out of the blue (well with some sneaky planning by my wife and Mary.) I freaked out!! hehe. We used to have long lunches every Monday out at the mud brick house in Anglesea. Lots to eat and lots of shooting of guns and drinking. He was the master cocktail maker at the brut de brut club at Tony's antique joint and a master model maker and builder of boats. Not to mention the beach buggies he used to race. He was a wild man. My kind of guy. I loved him dearly and am very sad this world has lost him. I had just booked a ticket to come and see my old friend, sadly, I missed the boat. Bless ya stevie, wherever you are mate. 33 years of good friendship. I'll treasure your Dryzabone whenever I where it and the knives you sent me. Love ya man. RIP "Ettienne le chef" See ya one day mate, for sure.

  9. Steve,
Was an absolute pleasure having you as a brother
in law and as part of the family. I've never been one to drink champagne 🍾 but you certainly changed that. Your love of Mary was so evident and overwhelming. Maybe now buddy you can start building a boat 🚢 uninterrupted. A fun guy who was always up to sharing a joke and good times.
RIP Steve, Anita and Peter Haywood
