  5. So very grateful to have had Al & Jill as friends for almost 50 years. When I think of Al, I think of his quick wit, his quips that I sometimes had to decipher on delay and his shared passion for the Doggies. ❤️🤍💙

An example of Al’s offbeat sense of humour was when we held a ‘D’ themed party for Den’s 40th. Al walked in with a light bulb around his neck. I thought, then asked what it had to do with the letter D? With that fabulous grin, he Al replied, “deLIGHTful”. (Only Al would have come up with that!) 😂

We were very privileged to catch up with Al the Friday before he passed. Again, Al’s sense of humour shone through when Den said, “Go Cats!”. Al’s response was immediate as he pointed to the door, “Out!”

Very proud to call this gentle, humble man our friend. Hope the Doggies can do you proud in September! ❤️🤍💙

  13. Dear Jill and Family,
My Heart is sad for you at this time of Al‘s death. May God help you to find peace in your hearts. Jill, you and Al were such a wonderful TOGETHER couple. I thank the Lord that I could have you as dear friends for so many years. Yes, it all began when Jill and I started teaching at Colac West in 1974. We certainly had some fun times!! Today as I sit in my living room in Saskatchewan and look across the room, I am so happy to see Al’s painting of the sea. It’s a real treasure from Al.
Dear Jill, Hugs to you and all the family.

  14. Al Giblin
Been a pleasure to have come across Al and Jill Giblin - 2 highly regarded staff members at Altona North PS in 1974. Al and I went on to complete the Special Ed Course in 1978 - a great course and a great year of getting to know Al, Jill, Stu, the baby at that stage, and the 1 eyed cat of Flax Street Werribee( if my memory of the address serves me correctly). Thankfully, often a guest for a meal and Jill became a personal secretary/assignment proofreader / typist to her husband and myself! So grateful! It was in this year also that I was to meet my wife to be in 1984, Deborah Donlen!

Moving to Drysdale PS in 1986 rekindled our Giblin/Carlon connection with both of our families sending their respective children to the school that Jill, Deb and I worked at and enjoyed for many years - Al being the principal at Portarlington PS!

    Memories of Al!
Al was a terrific bloke with a quick wit and a fantastic sense of humour! He always presented as a calm person, who could read situations intuitively and respond accordingly!

He, Jill and 3 kiddlets made you feel welcome to be in their company, sharing a meal, beer, always a joke and footy story re his beloved Bulldogs, which went down well with Greg and Em, and Deb and half of our children!!

His leadership talents were recognised locally when he was elected Principal of Portarlington PS! It was in this role down the track that Al showed his conviction, personal regard and welfare for his fellow staff members in choosing to step down in this principal role, because the Ed Dept. put all principals in a compromised position with firing/hiring staff, a situation Al was not personally comfortable with and a decision I highly respected Al for making to this very day!

I’m glad he got to see his doggies get the premiership in 2016 - one of the best finals series I’ve ever seen a team play to win the Big One!

He had artistic talents in making his famous polystyrene cut outs of footy teams and his actual paintings he would do of seaside scenes - one of which we are lucky to have!

Ha! Like me, not so good with mechanical things! Al borrowed my mower one day but when I got it back there were a few parts not where they should have been!! 😂

Pleasingly we were able to catch up recently, and again got to see and hear that grin and chuckle he’d have often - he lived life, was a fantastic family man and always saw the positive and fun side of it! RIP Al - gone but never forgotten!!
