Passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021.  Aged 91 years.

Devoted husband of Margaret (dec).

Loved father and father in law of Robin; Peter & Sharyn; Alan & Dorthe;

Dean (dec) & Elisabetta; Dedrie (dec) & Colin.

Adored Pop to all his grandchildren, great grandchildren

and great great grandchildren.

In our hearts you will always stay,

loved and remembered everyday.

1. FAREWELL TO MY GENTLE GIANT​

2. To the family of Ivan Hawthorn.

   Ivan was my OIC at Macquarie Island in 1979. I found him one of nature's gentleman who was very kind to all, and helpful to me on many occassions. He has great Antartica experience and that showed in how he let the specialist get on with their skill set whilst providing resources to allow them to achieve that.

   A great Australian and Antarctica expeditioner. Will be missed by all..

3. Uncle Ivan was a friend of mum and dad, Stella and Max Dawson and our family over many decades. We have many happy memories of family visits, with lots of laughs and stories and of receiving telegrams from Antarctica for weddings and babies. An interesting life well lived.
   Sincere condolences to Robin; Peter & Sharyn; Alan & Dorthe; Lisa (& Dean dec); & Colin (& Deidre dec).

   Rest peacefully Uncle Ivan.
