PANTON – Reverend Fr. Desmond Anthony

Born Monday July 12, 1937. Passed away Wednesday July 26, 2023.


Loved son of Gladys and Robert Panton, loved brother of Robert, (all dec).

Ordained a priest at St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne on 21 July 1962.  After serving temporarily at East Reservoir Parish (1962), Fr Panton was appointed Assistant Priest at the following parishes:  Geelong East (1963); Kilmore (1966); St Kilda East (1968); Oakleigh (1969); St Albans (1974) and Manifold (1979).  Fr Panton was then appointed at Drysdale Parish (1980), serving as Parish Priest for 32 years until his retirement in 2012 whereupon he was appointed Pastor Emeritus.  He passed away at Rice Village Aged Care Facility, Marshall on 26 July 2023.  He was aged 86 years.  Fr Panton will be remembered as a kind, gentle and dedicated pastor.

Monday August 07, 2023 - 12:00 am

Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Reverend Fr. Desmond Anthony Panton will be offered at St Thomas' Catholic Church, Peninsula Drive, Drysdale on MONDAY (August 7, 2023) commencing at 11 am.

Burial will take place at the Melbourne General Cemetery on THURSDAY (August 10, 2023) commencing at 12 noon.

  3. Uncle Des - may your kind soul rest in peace. Our home was always your home. Schweppes lemonade and Cadbury dairy milk with a good movie. Fond memories of holidays shared in QLD and WA. Thanks for taking me to the horse races and trots and teaching me how odds worked. You will be sadly missed by so so many. RIP uncle Des
