  2. I worked with Patrick for over 20 years at RMIT. After we resolved our endless work dramas we'd end up 'shooting the breeze' about all manner of topics from current affairs to music, TV and more. I loved those conversations. My last chat with Patrick was when I called him to ask if he was taking RMIT's latest redundancy package. He responded with a joyful yes! He also told me he'd always loved my letters to The Age and looked forward will to reading more of them - maintain the rage, he said. I was very flattered by this comment. I was very sorry and sad to hear of his passing and he will be missed by all who new him.

  3. I’m so very saddened to hear about Patrick’s passing. Patrick was a an incredibly patient mentor during my years in VET at RMIT Business. Not only did he know “everything” about VET, he was so much fun to work with. Great, witty sense of humour, we shared many laughs - and just a few drinks along the way. Patrick you will be sorely missed.
    My most sincere condolences, Edwina

  4. Patrick you were my first boss and you taught me so much about Vocational Education. You taught me that Student Experience is key and office etiquette is important.

You were amazing to work with. You became my friend and not just a colleague. You were kind, knowledgeable and funny.

Rest In Preace my beautiful friend.

Sending you a virtual hug Wendy.

  6. It is a great shame that often it is only in death that friends and relatives think deeply about the character and attributes of the person who has passed on, not that we necessarily take them for granted whilst they’re with us but it is precisely because they are with us that they are liked or loved for their utter uniqueness. Patrick was, without doubt, unique.

Patrick was one of the most polite men I have ever known; too polite to even acknowledge the need for my apology for almost killing him at over 100 mph on a French motorway when he was a passenger on the back of my motorbike; he claimed to have not noticed this event, having he said, been asleep throughout the entire journey. Too polite also to complain about having to sleep rough for the night under Pont Neuf bridge in Paris as we had run out of money en route home. Indeed so polite in fact he successfully bludged enough money from the British ambassador in Paris for a packet of cigarettes.

I am certain there are many others who were privileged to have know him who will have equally fond memories.

Patrick, we were acquainted for 50 years but I really wish that I’d actually known you better.

R.I.P my funny, intelligent, complex friend.
